JOB TITLE:    Manager, Operations I - 2nd Shift (WWOPS-082719-001b) 

 Introduction: 

The Manager, Operations I supervises a team of up to 40 staff, comprised of approximately 10 regular employees and 30 contractors.  This position is Second Shift, with normal hours of 3:15pm to 11:45pm - generally with earlier start to address operational issues with the First Shift team.  The Self-Checkout Second Shift team is focused on assembly, test and packaging of Toshiba's new System/7 product.  The Manager, Operations I ensures that daily/weekly production and quality targets are met.  This manager will be responsible for department staffing/hiring, performance management, training plans and all other facets of running a top-performing production team.  The Manager, Operations I will be a practitioner of LEAN management in all department processes. 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead LEAN best practices implementation and continuous improvement on Second Shift team.
  • Manage manufacturing operations including assembly, test and packaging of Self-Checkout lanes.
  • Lead by example, through strong work ethic, focus on quality and building teamwork within the department and with other organizations.
  • Work with staff to track and report shift performance.
  • Recruit and hire quality individuals, drive team to a high level of performance.
  • Meet daily production targets, including actions to address training needs, line support and attendance management.
  • Meet line quality objectives.  Ensure staff is properly trained (including backups), monitor for adherence to specifications, engineering change documents and standard work documents.
  • Facilitate and lead Kaizen projects within own team and involving other organizations.
  • Maintain a professional work environment with strong teamwork and positive morale.
  • Coach, evaluate and mentor regular employees, drive staff to continuous improvement.
  • Conduct daily shift kickoff meetings with entire team.  Interact with team members during the shift to monitor progress against objectives and identify/correct any issues.
  • Ensure department adheres to all safety standards including PPE, chemical management and safe work practices.

Required Skills:
  • 5 years' experience in LEAN manufacturing management
  • Experience with Oracle or SAP systems
  • Strong Microsoft Powerpoint, Excel and Word skills
  • Strong leadership, with ability to resolve conflict
  • Experience equivalent to 4-year degree in Supply Chain, Engineering or Management
  • 5+ years working in a lean manufacturing environment.  Experience leading Lean projects.
  • Strong leadership

  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills
  • Working knowledge of workplace safety standards and procedures, committed to maintaining an accident-free work environment

 Preferred Skills:
  • 10 years' experience in LEAN manufacturing environment
